Steve is a 49-year-old devoted and loving husband and father.

Since September 2012, Steve has been battling an extremely rare salivary gland cancer (Acinic Cell Carcinoma).

Over the years, Steve has managed to keep the cancer under control through a combination of surgeries, radiotherapies, chemotherapies and natural treatments. However recently, even though he achieved stability in the lungs and significant reduction in the liver tumour, (much to the surprise of his doctors) 5 new tumours have appeared in the Brain.

After consulting with 6 doctors to discuss the options, the best path forward is a combination of 2 low dose immunotherapy drugs (by IV) together with an oral chemotherapy drug, some repurposed cancer drugs and also some immune support supplements.

The immunotherapy drugs are not usually administered together (as they are manufactured by different pharmaceutical companies). But more and more evidence is forming to show that this combination (which targets / inhibits 2 individual immune checkpoints) enables the immune system to identify, attack and kill the cancer cells. Then adding a chemotherapy agent together with some repurposed cancer drugs, will target a number of genomic and metabolic pathways that should also compromise / fight the cancer. In fact, a few of the doctors we consulted have patients already following this treatment protocol with good results.

The treatment is administered every 3 weeks and the plan is to have a further 3 cycles and then have another scan to assess efficacy, etc…

In addition, the brain radiation that was performed in June 2021 was very successful and our senior radiologist has confirmed we can now preoceed with radiotherapy on the remaininly tumours.

Over the years, we have been forced to sell our home in the UK and spent all our savings on previous treatments, procedures and tests. SInce 2012, we have personally spent almost £800,000. Thank goodness Steve had a great job that paid out a good salary. But being unable to work for over 3 years, finances are extremely tight now.

We have enough funds to be able to cover the radiotherapy and 1 of the 3 treatments but we hope through this site we can raise the remaining funds to cover the 2nd and 3rd treatments as well as the scanning costs. This equates to just over £19,000.

For those of you following Steve’s journey, you’ll know he has gone through hell to fight his rare cancer and with your support he can continue this fight in the hope he can finally overcome this dreadful curse.

Anything you can contribute would be gratefully appreciated.

As some of you may already know, I have been busy helping many other cancer patients over the years and last year qualified as a certified holistic cancer coach. This means I am trained / qualified to help give advice to cancer patients in all aspects of their cancer journey. This ranges from conventional, alternative and natural treatments, to advise on surgical and radiation procedures, specialist nutrition for cancer patients, exercise, alternative treatments, etc…

Should any of you have a friend or loved one in need of any such health advice please feel free to give them my contact details.

With the help of a friend from Scotland, I have setup a website where I have posted some cancer articles and patients can get in touch with me and leave feedback, etc… my goal has always been to help as many cancer patients as possible and I am very happy to say that I have helped many cancer patients achieve stability and regain their health again. Having said that, as we all know there are no guarantees with cancer and some are easier to treat than others. Of course, I am of the lucky ones to have been blessed with such a rare and difficult cancer, but I am so happy to have been able to help so many others navigate their way through their cancer journeys.

Check out my website for further details.

We will keep you posted with health updates as things develop.

Thank you and stay safe.

Update: 10th December

Dear family and friends.

Firstly, please accept my apologies for the lateness of this update. It’s been an extremely rocky road over the past 2-3 months.

Let me start by saying that thankfully both Tina and I have fully finally recovered from Covid, Tina has so far received 1 vaccine shot and I have received 2 vaccine shots plus a booster and we continue to take the necessary precautions.

I know many of you are interested in receiving a detailed health update, but I am also aware that some of you prefer a short update, so I’ve changed the format to short update and please let me know If you are in interested in receiving any more details.

Short update.

Started 3 experimental protocols in early October and suffered some scary side effects in mid-November which led to a “severe adverse event” and an emergency Brain MRI to determine status.

MRI report was very positive and highlighted that tumours have either significantly decreased, decreased or remain stable. No new rumours were found. (See attached report with highlighted relevant areas in green)

Several days later I had a Liver Ultrasound to assess the status of the 3.3mm tumour (size in August). The report confirmed the tumour has reduced to 1.9cm!!!

Later this month I will have a CT scan of the lungs to assess status and we are hope (and expect) to see tumour reduction too!! Keep you posted.

So we are firmly heading in the right direction and all my doctors are impressed and very happy with the progress so far, but given the severity if the combined toxicity of taking all of these drugs at high dose, we have increased the monitoring requirements in the hope we can avoid any further “adverse events”.

On the finance side, money continues to be very tight to pay for the next 2 months of medication and Scans. I am happy to report that we have finally found a buyer for our 10yr old car in January, which will release some funds for future medication. I have been asked by several of you if my Chuffed Crowdfunding account is still open / active. I can confirm it is still functioning and have updated it to include the additional funding to allow me to pay for medicines, scans and doctors’ fees.

A very big thank you to all of you for supporting me in so many ways, it’s been one hell of a fight and I with this newfound hope, I look forward to shorting some more awesome news with you in the near future.

Tina and I would like to wish you all a Wonderful Xmas and a healthy and Happy New Year Ahead.

Love Steve & Tina

Dear supported thank you so very much for your generosity. I clearly have been blessed with some amazing family and friends! The fight continues and radiation starts on Tuesday. Horrible side effects are expected due to inflammation but I have my family here supporting me though this so I’m confident we will get thought it. Thanks again and we will be sure to keep you posted on further developments. Love and best wishes from the Slater family. ❤️
